Review | Yves Saint Laurent Palette Parisienne

I was so surprised when my boyfriend bought me back this gorgeous palette from his recent trip to China. This year YSL has released a new travel palette that is only available when shopping duty-free.

It retails for about $80 (depending on which country you're buying it from).

You can see YSL's press release for the palette here

I really love YSL's packaging for this palette. It has a magnetic closure and overall the packaging is quite substantial, not to mention it looks sleek!

I will do a separate review of the mascara at a later date :)

As usual, the brushes included in the palette (brushes are stored in the pouch) are not the best. Despite being from a high-end brand, they are cheaply made and the blush brush does not pick up much product at all! However the lip brush isn't too bad. But let's be honest, you didn't pick up this palette for the brushes now, did you?

The only downside to this palette is the placement of the lip colours and gloss. Having them right in the centre means that any eyeshadow or blush fallout will easily stick in the gloss! Even placing the glosses to one side of the palette would reduce this problem, or even placing some sort of plastic shutter on top of the lip colours.

After using these shadows for a couple of months, I will say that the shadows look lovely on the lid. The darker shades (1st and 4th shade) aren't as pigmented as I would have liked, but it makes them more wearable. They are of a more drier formula so they require a bit more blending, but once blended it leaves the most beautiful finish.

Shades from Left to Right:
No° 3 Persian Blue/Bleu de Perse (Ombre Solo)
No° 2 Cashmere Brown/Brun Cachemire (Ombre Solo)
Shade from the No° 3 Taupe Nacré (Ombres 5 Lumières)
Shade from the No° 11 Violet Aubergine (Ombres 5 Lumières)
Shade from the No° 2 Beige Rosé (Ombres 5 Lumières)

The 3 solid lip colours in this palette feature 1 wearable pinky nude, 1 hot pink and 1 barbie pink shade. They are highly pigmented and sit nicely on the lips. Although I don't tend to gravitate towards solid lip colours in palette-form, these are nice and especially for travelling they are quite convenient as you don't have to carry around 3 separate lipsticks as well.

I didn't swatch the gloss since it is a clear shimmer, but on top of the lip colours it gives them a nice sheen on the lips. It is quite a balmy gloss so you don't have to worry about any stickiness and it is quite moisturising, sitting comfortably on the lips.

The blush is the "matte" shade from the No° 4 Blush Radiance compact. It is not shimmery at all but it doesn't sit matte on the skin. It leaves a healthy pink sheen that is very natural. While it is not overly pigmented, it is build-able and you don't have to worry about looking like a clown when applying on the go!

Overall I really enjoy this palette. From the eyeshadows to the healthy-glow blush, this palette can be used to create softer day time looks and even darker more sultry eyes for a night out. If you're a fan of frosted eyeshadows and are looking for a compact palette that is great for travelling, I would definitely suggest picking this up the next time you're browsing in duty free!
